The West Hampton Dunes Barrier Beach Preservation Association (B.B.P.A) was created in 1983. Membership in the B.B.P.A. is open to all residents of West Hampton Dunes. The BBPA is a non-profit, non-political all volunteer organization. The BBPA provides ways for our residents to enjoy the barrier beach while preserving and protecting it for the enjoyment of future generations.

To preserve and protect the beaches, bays, wetlands and wildlife of West Hampton Dunes for the benefit of its citizens and visitors, and to promote respect for the coastal environment through public education and scientific research.


[edit] Sample BBPA Projects

Each year the BBPA runs a number of projects that help achieve our goals of preserving and protecting the barrier beach, as well providing education for our residents.

  • Annual Beach and Bay clean up - Preserve and protect the natural beauty by removing debris.
  • Classes for Children - Teach children about the natural wonders of the barrier beach.
  • Oyster Farming - Work on restoring the Oyster population to Moriches Bay.
  • Native Planting - Add native plants back to the barrier beach that are drought and deer resistant.
  • Horseshoe Crab Research Assistance - Work with Cornell Marine to better understand the Horseshoe Crab population and our environments impact on it.

Membership in the BBPA is open to all residents in West Hampton Dunes. Annual Dunes are $100 per household and are dune in June every year. Donations to any specific program beyond your yearly dues are needed and very welcome! It will enable the BBPA to do more in our community.

Dues and contributions are tax deductible. The BBPA is a 501 (c)(3) Not-for-profit organization.
