By Laws Change Summary 2009

Times have radically changed and circumstances are totally different than when the BBPA was incorporated in 1983, to lead the litigation to restore the barrier beach. This predated the formation of the village and it is time to bring the By Laws up to the 21st century and to make them functional for the BBPA today. Now we are focused entirely on the environment and the betterment of line on the barrier beach for all living creatures, including us.
The Board of Directors have worked long and hard to revise the by laws of the BBPA. The proposed changes have been unanimously approved by the current board.
[edit] Major Changes
- Made the By Laws gender neutral,
- Confirmed the longstanding practice that the definition of a Member is one Member per home,
- Confirmed the longstanding practice that a Charter Member is one who contributed to the BBPA prior to 1995, when the Village assumed the role of leading the litigation. A Charter member is entitled to lifetime free attendance at any and all BBPA events, including classes, parties, etc., but only those who still own property in the Village of West Hampton Dunes are entitled to vote,
- Brought the BBPA into the 21st Century by adding notice by email and electronic voting, although notices and voting will also be by paper ballot and regular mail,
- Established clear rules for write-in ballots,
- Established three classes of Members of the Board of Directors, the term of each Director to run for three years, with staggered terms so three Directors will be running each year. This change will not take effect until the next election in October 2010,
- Permits the Board of Directors, rather than the Members, to replace a Director who has resigned or who has, for any reason, failed to complete his or her term, until the next election,
- Confirmed the description of the functions of each officer to conform with the actual functions performed by them,
- Establishes at least two (2) Membership meetings, in the Spring and Fall of each year.

The Board of Directors has unanimously recommneded that you vote YES to approve the new by laws.
